The Bad Impacts of Television

The development of information and technology (IT) has been staggering right now. Many IT-based products, such as radio, cellphone, and internet, are created in such a way so that people can do their activities easily. These products will be always redesigned in order to accommodate people’s needs. One of the products that influences many people of ages nowadays is television. Through this “magical 3D-box”, people can know what’s happening in the other side of the world without going to that place. In additional to its essential function, TV can be also a learning resource for some people. However, there are several bad things that TV brings to us. And people can change a lot because of this.

The first thing is that the toddlers who watch TV will have behavioral disorders in their school days. Some scientists in US have controlled more than 1.000 of 29-month-old babies and their daily activities in front of TV. The impact was real, even with the consideration of some factors. The more time they spent watching TV, the more possible he is to behave badly and passively in class. A research in New Zealand said so. The more time those toddlers spent sitting in front of TV, the more possible they are to be dropped out of school. It’s not about the content or the genre of the program. However, they do not understand yet about things like murdering or even doing something good from the TV. This research said that, just sitting in front of TV, they can get such bad effects.

The second thing is that the babies and kids who watch TV will have a low span of attention. Have you seen a person who are really focus on stuffs they are working on? It can be something wrong with his/her hearing, or it can be also something wrong with what they are doing. A study of Iowa University has made sure that the time limits for kids in watching TV is two hours in a day. If it is more than that, the kids will have an attention disorders. And it is possible for them to be warned by their teacher in classroom. This also happens to the babies who are just seeing the TV. Although they do not understand the content of the program, the changes of the patterns and the pictures of TV monitor, which are very fast and uncontrollable, can cause this problem.

The last thing is that TV can make the watchers close to violence. This is not a controversial thing anymore. Many scientists agreed that TV programs do make people to act violently. A statistical data showed that a person, who is 18 years old, has watched 200.000 of violence and 40.000 of murdering cases. Almost all of them are from TV programs with such “entertaining” theme. Moreover, a research in the behavior of 700 kids towards this problem said that, the more time they spent watching TV, the more possible they are to act aggressively.

In brief, although TV is created with some informative and educative functions, it has also several bad impacts for those who watch. Firstly, the toddlers who watch TV will have behavioral disorders in their school days. Secondly, the babies and kids who watch TV will have a low span of attention. Lastly, TV can make the watchers close to violence. All of these impacts can be happened as people spend their time too much in front of TV. So they should consider to prevent these impacts in order to have a good life. Watching TV as necessary is a smart step for people to save their time. People should also select which TV program is better and useful for them. Thus, by doing that way, they can keep fine, active, smart, and healthy for sure.
